About

KGV was established through a Trust as ‘playing fields for the people of Guernsey’ in 1935 in memory of King George the Fifth. Many sports were played here in the early years, however it was deployed as a camp for slave workers during the war before being re-established in 1948. Over time, the Trustees acquired extra land and added buildings to provide extra amenity.

In 2020, the work was completed, providing sports facilities for use at the weekends and evenings, and community facilities for use every day. Many community events are now held here, including, King of the Ring Boxing, The Proms on the Wicket, Summer Fayre and much more.

Headway Guernsey, the Health Improvement Commission, the Guernsey Community Foundation and Parkinson’s Guernsey have established their headquarters within the KGV Clubhouse.  

The Friends of KGV run the facilities at Rue Cohu on behalf of a Trust headed by the Bailiff of Guernsey. Significant improvements have been made to the grounds over the last few years, with the work to the main Clubhouse being completed in 2020.

Any trading surpluses realised are ploughed back into improving the facilities or paying down loans. The Directors of the company are volunteers, however the senior management are salaried staff.
